When novices join a blackjack table, they focus intensely on their cards, aiming for a near 21 without risking a bust. Veterans mind their own hand but are especially mindful of the dealer's hand, particularly when the dealer is showing a 6—it's a likely bust scenario for the dealer and favorable for the player.

By drawing a 10, the dealer would reach 16, requiring a 5 or lower not to bust—an improbable outcome. When facing a dealer's 6, your cards become secondary as "standing" and doing nothing is often optimal.

The outcome is largely out of your control and taking action is not statistically or financially beneficial over a large sample size in most scenarios.

Achieving close to market returns by owning index funds.

How can owning index funds yield better than the average person’s returns, considering any fees paid will prevent surpassing market returns?

SPIVA's 20-year returns report on US asset classes indicates that funds employing active management have predominantly failed to outperform the market, with 96.85% of the studied funds underperforming.1

Thus, capturing market returns affordably is a robust strategy—not for beating the market, but for outperforming the average person by avoiding costly funds that chase performance.

Often times, reigning in one’s emotions and accepting good results instead of taking on unnecessary risk to seek great results can be the most sound option.
